ERIC (XITIAN) WANG
Founder and President
Born and raised in Taizhou, China, Eric never forget about his hometown even after he came to the U.S. for education and work. He is passionate about education and community and starting TOSCO is one of the most important decision he has made. Keep TOSCO running wasn't easy and Eric is very proud of what his team has accomplished.
Eric is currently pursing his MBA at Ross School of Business - University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Prior to Ross, Eric worked as a consultant at Deloitte New York office. Eric holds a B.A. from Johns Hopkins University and an M.S. from University of Notre Dame. He is a night kayaker and hardcore hiker. He is also a huge America college football and NCAA basketball fan.
STAN (YOUYE) XU
Vice President
Stan joined TOSCO and became part of them in 2012. In 2013, he found that the teenagers in China do not know how to plan their career ahead of university life, which is very different from the situation in most of the western countries as he acknowledged.
As a result, he soon took one of the leading role in College-Ready Education program organizing the summer camp for those students who just graduated from high school in China. In the summer camp Stan shared his experience and help his students to set career goals and detailed plans to reach that career goal. Stan and his volunteer team have held such summer camp annually for 3 years now. They are so proud to receive fantastic feedback from both students and public.
Stan has just got his bachelor degree from Sauder School of Business in University of British Columbia with a specialization in Accounting and will soon start his master degree in finance.
Tianyu zhao
Vice President
Tianyu Zhao graduated from Tsinghua University, and she is currently working in Huawei Device Company. She has started her volunteer experience with TOSCO in 2011 right after she finished the University Entrance Examination. She feels lucky enough to meet the TOSCO team members who are really passionate about voluntary work and caring for her hometown society. Tianyu has participated and organized the free education summer camps for migrants’ children in 2011&2012, which have benefited more than 70+ students from diverse provinces of China.
When studying in Tsinghua University, She kept doing the voluntary work. For example, she joined the SAEPA (Student Association of Educational Poverty Alleviation) and went to Hebei Province to be the volunteer teacher twice. From her perspective, the truth behind volunteer is to brighten up others no matter how little you can do. For this little love we accumulated, the world will become a better place to live in.
YIZHEN zhao
Advisor
Dr. Yizhen Zhao obtained her PHD in Economics from the Johns Hopkins University. She worked as the research consultant for the World Bank and IMF for several years before she started her tenure-track assistant professorship at the East Carolina University. Using her work experience at the top-notch international organizations and her expertise in economics, she advises the strategic development of TOSCO. Dr. Yizhen Zhao is a certified holder of the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation, which is the only globally recognized premier certificate for financial risk professionals. She also has her own capital management firm focusing investing into U.S financial markets. In personal life, Yizhen is a marathon runner and swimmer.
Bolun lin
College-Ready Education Program Co-lead
Bolun just graduated from University of Pittsburgh with a combine major in economics and mathematics. He volunteered in nursing homes and animal shelters when he was in high school at Shanghai, but he always wants to do something more than that. The College-Ready Education program was really the first time for him to fully utilize his experience and skills and tried his best to help those poor students who just graduated from high school.
After this great volunteer experience in 2012. Bolun showed his significant enthusiasm, which is an essential quality of being a summer camp leader. Thus Bolun became the leader of the TOSCO summer camp in 2013. Bolun seized this chance, aiming at bringing Tosco and its unique spirit to public's attention. Besides the regular cooperation with local charity institutions, he invited local newspaper to report the event of TOSCO summer camp. Consequently, the local citizens showed major interest in the summer camp. He said that being a volunteer at TOSCO was the first time for him to do all he could to help others, and that feeling was great!
Tianyu zhu
College-Ready Education Program Co-lead
Tianyu is currently spending his third year Accounting student in Jiangnan University . He joined College-Ready Summer Camp in 2014 and soon became an important part of TOSCO team. After supporting the programs in 2014 and 2015, Tianyu took the leading role in organizing the 2016 event.
Unlike most of his peers, Tianyu started his career planning at an early stage, and thus has great experience to share with high school students who participated in the program. With TOSCO, he wants to have more high school students in China realize the importance of career planning.
Shangjing wang
Volunteer
Shangjing is currently a student at University of Toronto (UT) majored in mathematics and economics. He graduated from the university this year and will continue to study for master degree in UT.
He joined TOSCO in 2013 as a volunteer and participated in every College-Ready Summer Camp since then. He enjoyed his time at TOSCO as it is not only a good experience for himself, but also a way for him to share his experience and help those incoming college students from low income families.
GAVIN (SHUAIHAN) WANg
Volunteer
Gavin graduated from the University of Nottingham with a major in electrical and electronic engineering. He enjoys all kinds of sports and loves photography, which he used it as a way to retain every remarkable moments of his life.
Gavin has volunteered for the College-Ready Education Program for 3 years. He was a mentor for many students on life and career planning. Apart from mentoring at TOSCO, he also learned many things such as public speaking and efficient communicating skills throughout the events.
Shushu zhao
Volunteer
Shushu is currently a college student at Central South University with a major in Geographic Information System. He joined TOSCO as a volunteer in 2015. Shushu believes TOSCO is an organization that not only helps young students with great potential to get ready for college, but also opens up many opportunities for them. He enjoyed working with other volunteers and has made many friends who share the same vision.
In Shushu’s spare time, he enjoys spending time playing drum and basketball. He is also passionate about collecting sneaker, especially the Air Jordans series .
